Tilburg for beginners!

Organised for the second time, the Welcome day 2007 was a great success!

We started the day at City Hall Tilburg where the alderman Mr. Hugo Bacx

presented Tilburg as a partially new, partially old and very alive city where many events are being organised.  His enthusiastic words had their effect on the group and after a nice cop of coffee and a chocolate marked with the famous “T” for Tilburg we headed on towards the Willemsplein, the main square where our tandem bikes where waiting for us!

After having experienced that you really need to communicate with your co-rider in order to get this comfortable, but difficult vehicle up and running, we started with our tour through Tilburg. We stopped on different occasions, sometimes to get a small explanation of a historical building, other times to gather the entire group so that we would not lose anybody during this trip.

One of the stops was the museum “De Pont” located at the Wilhelminapark in Tilburg. After the organization of the museum offered us a refreshment, two English speaking guides showed us around this fantastic renewed museum. De Pont shows works from a variety of artists coming from over the entire world which was of course, having such an international group, very much welcomed.

We continued our tour after an hour and start making our way towards the Wijnhandel Van Bilsen.  At this excellent wine house we where welcomed in a very nice way: with a glass of new Italian Lambrusco!

After having caught our breaths we started with a small wine taster. We were offered two different tasteful white wines and two excellent red wines.

In order not to get confused with the different tastes of the wines, Van Bilsen offered us a variety of cheeses, ham, olives, breads and some warm appetizers to get the taste neutralised. Not only were we spoiled with all these delicacies, but we also got us plenty of information about the wines we where drinking!

The afternoon ended at around 17.30 and after having said our goodbyes everybody went their own way.

The intention of this afternoon was to meet each other, see a little bit of Tilburg and the places it offers. As the alderman had said Tilburg is a city you need to get to know. We think we can look back on an informal, pleasant and relaxed afternoon!

We would like to thank everybody that was present for making it a fantastic afternoon!!
